Emma Carney

Health Consultant

World Triathlon Performance Coach, Athletics Australia Level 2 Coach, AUS Cycling Performance Coach, Sport Australia Hall of Fame Athlete Member, World Triathlon Hall of Fame Member

Emma Carney is a former elite triathlete who achieved multiple world championships and three-time world number one status. She began in athletics as a junior distance runner before transitioning to triathlon in 1993, winning her first world championship in 1994 and a second in 1997. During 1995-1997 she won all but three races internationally, dominating the sport, with her athletic success attributed to an exceptionally low resting heart rate and high lactate tolerance.

Carney retired in 2004 after being diagnosed with a serious heart condition, despite being told she would never exercise again. She now holds multiple coaching roles ranging from school programs through to high-performance coaching, and contributes to World Triathlon Development through courses and content creation for coaches and athletes.
