Dr Ruwangi Malvenna

Ruwangi is a consultant psychiatrist with over 19 years of experience in clinical psychiatry. She has extensive experience working in both the private and public sector, and has worked as a consultant psychiatrist in several public hospitals including Mercy Health, Northwestern Mental Health, Northern Health and South West Health Service. Ruwangi has also worked as the authorised psychiatrist for South West Health Service.

She holds a strong academic interest and recently held a post as Senior Lecturer for the Medical School of Deakin University. She completed a dissertation in adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in 2010, and has a strong interest in the assessment, diagnosis and management of ADHD.

Her main areas of interest are attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety and mood disorders, women’s mental health, eating disorders, youth mental health, trauma-related mental health disorders and psychosis.

Ruwangi appreciates working closely with general practitioners and families of patients, in order to deliver comprehensive care. She believes in the importance of providing an appropriate combination of biological treatments, such as medications, and psychosocial interventions, to optimise patients’ treatment and recovery.
