Dr Ravi Kumar Tankala

Paediatrician

MRCPCH, FRACP, DCH

Dr Ravi Kumar Tankala is a general paediatrician and enjoys working with children from birth to adolescence. He provides a broad range of paediatric services that can affect children’s health, welfare, behaviour, and learning. These include developmental issues such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and learning difficulties, as well as complex medical issues and neurological disorders including cerebral palsy and epilepsy, asthma, allergies, and respiratory disorders, neonatology (newborns), and paediatric nuclear medicine.

He believes that children are not just small adults, and they present with unique medical needs, with treatment differing for each specific child. He has three years of neonatology experience and loves working with newborns. Dr Tankala is incredibly passionate about paediatrics and child health. From childhood, he had kindness and compassion to help people, which inspired him to become a doctor.

Dr Tankala completed a Bachelor of Medicine (MBBS) in India and after that he moved to Australia to pursue his career. Since then, he has completed a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) at Sydney University, is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH), and holds a Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP). Dr Tankala has worked in tertiary hospitals in a number of roles, including as a Registrar at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Royal Children’s Hospital, Prince Charles Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and Townsville University Hospital.

Dr Tankala also acquired skills, training and experience working in the UK, both in Neonatology and Paediatrics, through a Specialist Training pathway from the West Midlands Deanery, Birmingham Network, prior to coming back home to Australia two years ago. As a father, he is good at understanding how parents think and feel, and he knows how to connect with the children he sees. He genuinely cares about them, and understands how important childhood is, having himself been away from his parents due to his studies.

He speaks four languages: English, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. When he is away from work, he enjoys travelling and exploring the world, and spending quality time with his son.
